Housing Preservation Coordinator

Claretian Associates has added a new, full-time position, the Housing Preservation Coordinator, to respond to the growing crisis of foreclosing homes, expiring funding for affordable rental units, increasing rents and conversion of affordable housing units into market rate developments. In collaboration with local community organizations including local foreclosure prevention providers, we will assist over 300 South Chicago families each year.

One of the goals in the South Chicago Quality-of-Life Plan is the creation of a mixed-income, sustainable community. To this end, it is critical to ensure that the long-term residents of this historic community maintain access to housing they can afford. This position reports directly to the Claretian Associates’ Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Convene and lead meetings of a new Foreclosure Prevention Task Force to streamline and coordinate community resources and communication on foreclosure prevention, credit repair and early intervention strategies to reach all geographic areas of South Chicago.
  • Market foreclosure prevention services to area organizations including small church groups, local schools and day care centers to connect working poor families to available help, even before they face foreclosure.
  • Teach financial literacy workshops over one session or multi-month sessions to adults and youth in Spanish and English.
  • Coordinate design, production and timely delivery of bilingual direct mail for area households outlining available financial assistance services available in the community.
  • Coordinate and carry out logistics for meetings, events and relevant activities.
  • Create and maintain record keeping information systems related to program.
  • Represent Claretian Associates at community meetings, forums, and public events as required.
  • Assist families in local developments to establish functioning resident/tenant councils that  address the quality of life issues within the housing complexes, including but not limited to the preservation of the affordability of the housing.
  • Lead continuation of preservation projects such as the rental housing audit including community presentations and further education of community on housing issues. Utilize results to leverage support of elected officials, among others.
  • Other assigned duties as requested.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience in marketing, outreach and training. Spanish speaking strongly preferred.Be a multi-tasker, self-starter with strong time-management skills. Be accurate and organized.  Able to work with diverse groups. Excellent writing, oral and presentation skills. Strong computer skills. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Competitive salary and benefits.

Villa Guadalupe Maintenance Supervisor

This full time position provides maintenance and janitorial support and supervision for Villa Guadalupe's 53 senior apartments, Claretian Associates' office, 8-unit Rehab South Chicago apartments, and South Chicago People's Park.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise part-time maintenance and housekeeping staff.
  • Respond promptly to tenant requests for maintenance (routine, emergencies and weekends)
  • Ensure that essential systems are working efficiently (lighting, water heaters, furnaces, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc.)
  • Ensure that all parts of the buildings are structurally safe (windows, roof, boiler heating and cooling systems.)
  • Seasonal maintenance  including HVAC systems
  • Complete inventory supply on a monthly basis.
  • Upkeep and maintenance building exteriors including lawn mowing, snow shoveling, weekends included. 
  • Work closely with entire staff for the good of the properties.
  • Other assigned duties as requested.

Qualifications: Experience and knowledge of building systems and maintenance procedures; Strong communication skills with tenants, contractors, staff. .Able to respond quickly to emergency situations. Spanish speaking preferred. Be a multi-tasker, self-starter with strong time-management skills. Be accurate and organized.
