Villa Guadalupe celebrates 18th year in service to area seniors

 

Villa Guadalupe Senior Services' mission is to enhance the quality of life for older persons in South Chicago and ensures their dignity by providing affordable housing and supportive services for this under served population. Villa Guadalupe encourages autonomy and self-determination, fosters a sense of security, and affirms the individual’s ability to maintain and enhance relationships with family, church, and community.

Recent highlights include:

Improving affordable residential services

  • Resuming in-house property management after 10 years of outsourcing
  • Beginning capital improvements including updating the community room to meet the seniors’ and community’s growing needs for additional activity and meeting space.

Expanding Social Services for South Chicago seniors

  • Providing a path of access for seniors needing services including case management, health care referrals, access to treatment and follow-up and immigration and other advocacy activities.
  • Offering new activities including the “Hoofers Club,” a senior tap dancing and chair aerobics class.


Realizing goals and strengthening partnerships

  • Realizing the goal of having a senior campus in South Chicago. The Victory Centre of South Chicago owned by Pathway Senior Living offers affordable assisted living. The campus will also include a City Department of Family and Support Services’ satellite senior center and independent living apartments for seniors.
  • Convening the Senior Services Coalition of Southeast Chicago, a 40-agency member coalition which provides services within the southeast Chicago community. The group meets monthly to network with each other to improve services for seniors.
