Celebrate the month of May at dozens of free events -- all part of the annual 10th Ward Green Summit.
We held a great kick-off on April 27 at the Jovial Club, which highlighted future green and eco-friendly community developments, events and activities that will be happening in South Chicago.
Speaker included 10thWard Alderman John A. Pope, Nasutsa Mabwa, Project Manager of Lakeside, McCaffery Interests, Arlette Vollrath of the Chicago Velo Campus, Rosio Zavala of Spanish Coalition for Housing on the South Chicago Retrofit Project, as well as Kevin Murphy & Joann Podkul, who spoke on Chicago Conservation Corp C3. The Kick-off emcee was Angela Hurlock, Executive Director of Claretian Associates.

The 10th Ward Green Summit events are free and include programs on healthy eating, gardening techniques, energy efficiency services, recycle (appliance) drop off, community tours, volunteer opportunities, stewardship days, safety & green events, and recycled art activities.
All of these family-friendly activities will take place from South Chicago to Wolf Lake and Eggers Grove.
Also back by popular demand, will be Alderman John A. Pope’s 10th Ward personal streetcar tour, “From Steel to Green.” You can sign-up for this free tour and visit green sites and hear the history of Southeast Chicago and its transformation from the closing of the steel mills to the future development of the Lakeside properties at the old Southworks site.
