The South Chicago community is facing a critical lack of affordable housing. Claretian Associates aims to use a comprehensive method of community development for the complete revitalization of the South Chicago community. Through key partnerships, we have implemented the Quality of Life Plan that includes improvements in employment, safety, health care, housing, development, arts and environmental awareness. Having a VISTA will make an important difference to the production of affordable rental housing in a community long underserved and lift people out of poverty.

Hiring Community Watchers & Floaters

Community Watchers provide student supervision along safety routes during school arrival and dismissal times. Community Watchers observe and report unusual or uncharacteristic behavior on school routes and report to the Safety Manager. The Community Watchers work approximately five hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the public school year (180 days). Specific hours and locations to be worked will be set by supervisor. Floating Community Watchers work as needed, and can be promoted to a regular status community watcher working 25 hours/week when the opportunities are available.

We are looking for a Cure Violence Program Manager!

The Program Manager will facilitate implementation of the Claretian Associates' Cure Violence program  The Program Manager will be responsible for building relationships with community based groups, residents, elected officials and law enforcement to educate South Chicago and South Shore community stakeholders about the Cure Violence program, to identify resources, collaboration efforts, and to assist Claretian Associates' community mobilization efforts around the issue of violence in order to help facilitate lasting changes within our community.

Claretian Associates is looking for a Community Services Coordinator!

The Community Services Coordinator is a new position developed to respond to the growing need for affordable housing and services brought on by the crisis of foreclosing homes, expiring funding for affordable rental units and increasing rents, as well as the need for access to affordable food and financial literacy education. Therefore, it is critical to ensure that the long-term residents of this historic community maintain access to affordable housing and other needed resources and services. This position reports directly to the Claretian Associates’ Executive Director.

South Chicago Parent Cafe Training Institute

South Chicago Parent Cafe Training Institute (SC-PCTI) introduces a two-day experiential training that prepares staff and parents to bring the Parent Cafe process to the broader South Chicago community. We are encouraging community leaders and/or parents who have a long-term commitment to the Southeast Side to participate. During the Institute, the team will build their knowledge and skills necessary to serve as hosts and/or facilitators of Parent Cafes.
