Promgrams![]() Fr. Mark Brummel Board member, Fr. Mark Brummel has retired from the St. Jude League after a lifetime of dedicated service. We are thankful that Fr. Brummel will continue to serve as a board member of Claretian Associates. Fr. Brummel has been a part of the construction of many of Claretian’s affordable housing properties. Specifically, the Villa Guadalupe Senior Community property which continues to be near and dear to Fr. Mark. Plans are underway to honor of Fr. Winter Clothing Distribution Earlier this month, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P) and Flatlining Violence Inspiring Peace (FLIP) teams held a winter clothing distribution, Pop-Out, We're Here, We See and We Care. The teams gave away flannel jackets, gloves, hats, socks, and more. The teams would like to thank the local Starbucks located in the Jewel on 95th and Stony Island for donating coffee to the event. ![]() Quality of Life Plan Youth Focus Group The SALUD Center hosted a youth focus group for the South Chicago Quality of Life Plan. Youth from the ages 7- 16 were welcomed with an activity sheet to draw and color their dream neighborhood. Another activity was writing out things they would like to see in the community on sticky notes. Many of the youth wanted to see improvements in the public transportation system improve, remodeling of their schools, and more beautification of the community. “We want to hear from every age group especially the youth because this is their community,” said Program Manager Tiarra Owens. More youth focus groups will be held at Baker College Prep and University of Chicago Grand Rounds Youth Summit. For more information, contact Tiarra at [email protected]. ![]() Seniors Recently the South Chicago SALUD Center Senior residents and Peace Makers from Giving Others Dreams (GOD) Center have collaborated for Smiling Seniors, senior game days. The seniors and the Peace Makers gather twice a week in the community room for an afternoon of listening to music, playing board games, and enjoying a meal together. The goal of the gatherings is to prevent senior isolation. Community Watchers ensure students have a safe route going to school and home.
