Rehab South Chicago Apartments 

In 1997, Claretian Associates completed renovation of an eight unit building on east 91st Street, creating affordable apartments for low-income families. The building was chosen due to its central location in the primary target area and in the midst of the New Homes project.  At the time of purchase only one unit of the eight was occupied and the building was a haven for illegal activity.  The project was made possible through a combination of grants and permanent low-interest loans. Claretian Associates won the Amoco Leader Award for this project and used the award money to purchase the building and cover pre-development costs. Claretian Associates’ collaborator, South Chicago Workforce, used the rehabilitation project to train and employ 15 local residents in the construction trades. In 1998, the development received the Federal Home Loan Bank’s “Community Partnership Award.” Claretian Associates now oversees management of the building.

​Rehab South Chicago Apartments consists of eight apartments ranging in size from 2-4 bedrooms. Amenities include onsite laundry facilities, a large backyard and roomy back porches. It is located two doors down from South Chicago People's Park.
